The stand-alone brushless doubly-fed induction generator (BDFIG) with the conventional control strategies suffers heavily from poor dynamic performance especially under heavy load disturbance. This paper presents a new vector control strategy of BDFIG for stand-alone power generation applications, which is based the power winding (PW) flux orientation and with the transient feedforward compensation of the control winding (CW) current estimated from the change in the PW current. Comparative experiments are carried out on a 90 kVA prototype BDFIG by employing the conventional and the proposed control strategies, and the results verify the satisfactory dynamic performance of the proposed strategy.
