Recent extraordinary advances in cancer immunotherapy rely primarily on marshaling T cell responses. Here we discuss how NK cell responses can be amplified. We find that MHC I-deficient tumors induce anergy of NK cells but that cytokine therapy restores NK cell activity and increases the survival of mice bearing MHC I-deficient tumors.
In this response to my critics, I amplify the conceptual clarification and methodological stipulation of habitus begun in ‘Homines in extremis’ to help us move from a sociology of the body as socially construc- ted object to a sociology from the body as socially construc -ting vector of knowledge, power, and practice. The specification of habitus by membership in collectives, attachment to institutions, and analytic purpose makes it a flexible multi-scalar notion with which to construct the epistemic individual and account for both reproduction and change, conformity and creativity, as well as self-revision. For this, we must reject theological interpretations that rigidly lock habitus into Bourdieu’s framework; avoid conflating the formal properties of the notion with its concrete features in specific settings and cases; and distinguish between the rhetorical invocation of his concepts (‘speaking Bourdieuese’) and their effective deployment in the construction of the empirical object. As embodied and embedded capacity, habitus brings temporality, depth, and desire to the analytic epicenter. It reminds us that the social world is not transparent, open-ended, and instantaneous, but endowed with gravity, opacity, and asymmetry. Treating the sentient and skilled organism as fount of both social intelligence and sociological acumen can help historical social science connect with enactive psychology and recover the carnality of action that conventional accounts of social life routinely erase.

The presence, nature, and impact of chemical short-range order in the multi-principal element alloy CrCoNi are all topics of current interest and debate. First-principles calculations reveal that its origins are fundamentally magnetic, involving repulsion between like-spin Co-Cr and Cr-Cr pairs that is complemented by the formation of a magnetically aligned sublattice of second-nearest neighbor Cr atoms. Ordering models following these principles are found to predict otherwise anomalous experimental measurements concerning both net magnetization and atomic volumes across a range of compositions. In addition to demonstrating the impact of magnetic interactions and resulting chemical rearrangement, the possible explanation of experiments would imply that short-range order of this type is far more prevalent than previously realized.

During the first years after the introduction of the CNN paradigm, many templates were designed by cut-and-try techniques, playing with a few nonzero template elements, and using a simulator to calculate the CNN dynamics. After a while, some systematic design methodologies emerged. Today several methods are available for generating CNN templates or algorithms, even for complex tasks.
Activity-based sensing (ABS) offers a general approach that exploits chemical reactivity as a method for selective detection and manipulation of biological analytes. Here, we illustrate the value of this chemical platform to enable new biological discovery through a case study in the design and application of ABS reagents for studying hydrogen peroxide (H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub>), a major type of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that regulates a diverse array of vital cellular signaling processes to sustain life. Specifically, we summarize advances in the use of activity-based boronate probes for the detection of H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub> featuring high molecular selectivity over other ROS, with an emphasis on tailoring designs in chemical structure to promote new biological principles of redox signaling.
