This paper presents a direct visual servoing system to control a redundant robot. To solve the redundancy the concepts of manipulability and perceptibility are combined in a priority based scheme. The proposed dynamic controller determines the appropriate motor references such that the robot-end and joints behave correctly. In order to guarantee the applicability of this approach, a repetitive path tracked by the robot-end must produce a periodic joint motion. The paper describes experiments in which a non-periodic joint motion is obtained during the tracking of repetitive image trajectories. To solve this problem, delayed feedback control is integrated in the dynamic controller in order to avoid chaotic behavior in the joint space during the tracking of these image trajectories. Furthermore, a method to adjust this last controller is proposed based on experimental results.

Robot manipulators have multiple uses and are especially useful when dealing with complex manipulation tasks in unstructured environments. This paper presents a direct image-based controller for performing the guidance of a free-floating robot manipulator. A camera is attached to the end-effector of the manipulator and the robot is attached to a base satellite. The proposed direct image-based control strategy computes the torque to be applied to the joints, and takes into account the system's kinematics and dynamics model. The operation is such that the base is completely free and floating in space with no attitude control, and thus freely reacting to the movements of the robot manipulator attached to it. The main objective is to track a desired trajectory in the image space with respect to an observed object in space. The proposed control strategy optimizes the motor commands with respect to a specified metric. The controller is applied to direct visual control of a four-degree-of-freedom robot manipulator.
This paper presents the modeling, design and visual control of a 3 degrees of freedom joint structure with an eye-in-hand camera. For the structure guidance, the paper presents a new direct visual servoing strategy that allows the tracking of time-independent paths defined in the image space. This joint structure is attached at the end of a robotic manipulator Mitsubishi PA-10. This last robot will be applied to manipulation tasks in which a fixed camera cannot be used. To avoid this problem, the joint structure positions the camera following the path previously established that provides a proper visualization of the task. The defined control strategy is able, not only to make the guidance of the joint structure, but also to guide the robot manipulator using the extracted visual features. To do this, we have defined the concept of virtual reference camera, which simulates a real camera at the end of the manipulator. This virtual camera allows the manipulator guidance by using a classical image based visual servoing system.

This paper describes a dynamic image-based control system to guide two coupled robots. The first robot is a Mitsubishi PA-10 robotic manipulator which has a second mini-robot with 3 degrees of freedom (DOF) attached at its end-effector. The vision system used for the guidance of both robots is composed of a camera at the end-effector of the mini-robot. The paper presents a new method to perform the mini-robot guidance using dynamic control to track a previous generated image trajectory. The mini-robot performs the tracking in a workspace in cooperation with a human operator. Therefore, the proposed visual control is combined with virtual visual servoing to perform a safety behavior.
