Hydrogen evolution activity of semiconductor heterostructures of the type (TiO2)1−x (NiO) x /Cd0.8Zn0.2S has been investigated in detail to examine the role of NiO, used in the place of Pt by making use of nanoparticles and nanotubes of TiO2. Combination of NiO and TiO2 markedly changes the photocatalytic efficiency of the heterostructures. While the H2 evolution activity increases smoothly with NiO mole farction up to x~0.50, it increases further reaching a maximum at x~0.83, yielding 1.6mmolh−1 g−1 (AQY ~2.9%) with Na2S–Na2SO3 as sacrificial agents, under visible-light irradiation, and 6.84mmolh−1 g−1 (AQY ~11.7%) and 13.5mmolh−1 g−1 (AQY ~10%) with benzyl alcohol-acetic acid as sacrificial agents under visible and UV–visible light irradiation respectively. High hydrogen evolution activity to the tune of three times that yielded by equivalent Pt containg heterostructures has been attained, with a NiO mole fraction of 0.83 in the heterostructures.
No stars but stripes are known to occur in cuprate superconductors (see picture) and there has been an implicit belief that stripes play a seminal role in superconductivity. Based on recent experiments, it now appears that the relation between the stripes and superconductivity is by no means established. There is need for crucial experiments to understand this important aspect.
ChemInform is a weekly Abstracting Service, delivering concise information at a glance that was extracted from about 200 leading journals. To access a ChemInform Abstract of an article which was published elsewhere, please select a “Full Text” option. The original article is trackable via the “References” option.

X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy studies show that Pb in superconducting Tl0.5Pb0.5CaSr2Cu2O7+δ is essentially in the 4+ state while it is in the 2+ state in Pb2Sr2Ca1−xLnxCu3O8+δ.

In pursuit of a compound with the Kagome structure, formed by a non-Fe(3+) transitional metal ion with a spin of 5/2, we have synthesized an amine-templated Mn(2+) sulfate under solvothermal conditions. This compound with a perfect Kagome structure shows evidence for antiferromagnetic interactions with no long-range order.
An entry from the Cambridge Structural Database, the world’s repository for small molecule crystal structures. The entry contains experimental data from a crystal diffraction study. The deposited dataset for this entry is freely available from the CCDC and typically includes 3D coordinates, cell parameters, space group, experimental conditions and quality measures.
